A phone that keeps restarting on its own — sometimes called a boot loop — is alarming to watch, but it's usually a software problem rather than a dead device.
Let the cycle run a few times
Occasionally a boot loop resolves itself after a few cycles, especially if it was triggered by a single stuck app or a failed update.
Force a hard restart
Hold the power button (and volume button, on many phones) for a longer press than usual — often 15-20 seconds — to force a full shutdown rather than another restart attempt.
Boot into safe mode if possible
Many phones support a safe mode that starts up with only built-in apps running, which helps determine if a third-party app is causing the loop. Check your phone model's specific method.
Check for a recent update or app install
If the boot loop started right after installing an app or a software update, that's very likely the trigger. Uninstalling the app in safe mode, or waiting for a follow-up software fix, often resolves it.
Watch the battery percentage during loops
If the phone shows a very low or fluctuating battery percentage right before restarting, the loop may actually be caused by a failing battery rather than software.
If safe mode doesn't stop the loop, or the phone won't stay on long enough to try anything, it's a sign of a deeper software or hardware fault that's worth professional diagnosis rather than repeated restart attempts.
